Fr. Gordon MacRae’s Blog- These Stone Walls Mentioned by the Catholic LeagueJust a quick announcement to let you know that The Catholic League mentioned These Stone Walls in this month's Catalyst. Please follow this link to access: […]
- Pop Stars and Priests: Michael Jackson and the “Credible” Standard. . . As a result of availability bias, humans tend to replace their beliefs with the crowd's beliefs simply because a proposition has been repeated in the media and presented as widely believed. We are subjected to subtle cues of social pressure every day in marketing that convince many people to purchase things they don't really need. We also fac […]
- Descent into Lent. . . Remember when I wrote last week that I don't swear unless I'm quoting someone? I'm not exactly sure who I was quoting, but out it came! Ninety-nine percent of every day in here is so filled with noise that I can't hear myself think. It was just my luck that my single moment of foul outburst occurred during the sole moment of silence […]
- Going My Way. . . It’s clear how very much that world view is shaped by the media. Hollywood's treatment of Catholics and the priesthood has sure changed since Bing Crosby donned a Roman collar. One of my friends watched The Bells of St. Mary's, then stopped by my cell to comment. He loved it, but added that today Hollywood would have Father O'Malley on […]
- Forty Days and Forty Nights. . . I am not at all spared anxiety in prison, and the place where it most manifests itself is in dreams. I have very vivid dreams since I have been in prison, and they have not abated over the years. I have two recurring dreams that are haunting and clear displays of my own anxiety. They make some nights more… well … Lenten than others. I have had each of […]
- In the Land of Nod, East of Eden. . . Many of the younger prisoners are just lost. There's a clear correlation between their presence here and the systemic breakdown of family - especially fatherhood - in our culture. There is an alarming number of young prisoners here who have had either abusive fathers or none at all. There is a direct and demonstrable correlation between the breakd […]
- February Tales. . . When I was growing up North of Boston, I spent as little time as possible indoors. I climbed every tree I could find. My friends and I spent a lot of time in trees - something Freud, or maybe Darwin, might read into. There was a huge elm on our block. When I was ten, I loved to climb high into it above the traffic of the street, find my favorite perch […]
- Questions from Readers of These Stone Walls. . . On August 26th, I posted "Postcards from the Edges." It wasn't exactly a masterpiece of western literature. Nonetheless, I thought it was a good post that addressed a timely topic: news media bias. It was barely noticed, and received few comments. Six weeks later on October 7th, I posted "To the Readers of These Stone Walls." […]
- Prophets on the Path to Peace. . . There is a natural abhorrence to such language today, and to such a decision from our Supreme Court. But in 1857 the Court went far beyond the simple ruling that Dred Scott did not possess the rights of a citizen to sue. The decision rendered the Missouri Compromise unconstitutional thereby throwing out the U.S. Congress’s right to make territory fr […]
- The Eighth Commandment. . . Last month, a Massachusetts high school teacher was exonerated after facing a nearly identical plight. A 14-year-old student accused him of sexual assault. Months later, his life in near ruins, the teacher was exonerated at trial when it was learned that the girl made up the story because the teacher had reprimanded her in class. Here in prison, men of […]

Father Lives with God and his memory will be everlasting as will be the cross at ground zero….. ALWAYS REMEMBER 911-01 and the sacrificial offerings made by Americans..too much of the media think its an “OH WELL LET’S MOVE ON MENTALLITY” that is sick and has a smacking of perversion..
God Bless America and ALL its sons and daughters ….. especially those who fight to preserve our freedoms and those who have given their lifes for US!
The blog about Fr. Tim and the photos were extremely moving. Tears blinded me but I kept reading and crying and thinking of all those who died for us. I am grateful for all of their lives.
I never knew Fr. Tim, but I thank his family for sharing him with us. I thank God for his priesthood and for his life. I thank the thousands of special people who died on September 11 for reasons that only God knows.
I pray for them daily and for their families left behind to wonder why and to grieve. Oh, that we could love one another the way that Christ loves each one of us. What a wonderful world that would be.
Until that time let us remember each other in prayer and ask our Lord to touch each of our hearts the way that the victims of 9/11 and Fr. Tim have.
May the Lord protect our men and women in harm’s way. Peace to all.
